Course objectives (in Czech)
To make the students familiar with the basic theoretical approaches to teaching language skills in communicative language teaching.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
The students will gain theoretical knowledge of language skills and various strategies for their development within the scope necessary for effective language teaching. They will be able to apply this knowledge in analysis of teaching materials and to use them to develop fluency in English.
Syllabus (in Czech)
1. Introduction to teaching language skills, receptive, productive and subskills 2. Reading, listening, speaking, writing: characteristics of the skills and relevant subskills 3. The role of skills in language teaching and their development: reading and listening tasks, writing, speaking and interaction 4. Working with text for language systems presentation (grammar, vocabulary, phonology) 5. Integrated skills 6. Using course books and adaptation of authentic materials 7. Project work
Assessment methods (in Czech)
An aggregate oral exam from Teaching Language Skills and ELT Methodology 2. The students will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge of the subject, especially in a relation to teaching language systems in a combination with the insight gained during Teaching Practice 2. Students prepare three seminar assignments based on the lecturer’s requirements.
