Course objectives (in Czech)
To introduce learners to key components of language learning and teaching processes and make them aware of these phenomena through live and indirect observation and reflection on teaching; to develop their observation skills and ability to focus on critical moments in a language lesson, to make effective observation notes and evaluate classroom activity following specific assessment criteria.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
Learners will be aware of basic components of language teaching, will be able to recognize, analyse and evaluate them while observing experienced English language teachers, with a focus on varied interaction patterns, classroom communication and mother tongue use.
Syllabus (in Czech)
1. Language learning objectives, teacher, and learner roles. 2. Classroom management. 3. Classroom interaction patterns, teacher talk. 4. Structure of a language lesson with reference to lesson aims. 5. Using learners’ mother tongue. 6. Teaching aids and their effective use in language teaching. 7. Microteaching.
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Learners will actively participate in seminars (80 % attendance), engage in microteaching, observe two recorded lessons and two live English lessons taught by experienced teachers and present observation notes and summaries of 3 articles focusing on language teaching.
