Cíle předmětu
To introduce learners to the most influential methods and approaches to language teaching, principles of effective lesson planning with reference to stated lesson aims, learner needs and level of proficiency, and to provide them with further tools for the evaluation of lesson planning, teaching, and teaching materials.
Výstupy z učení
Learners will be aware of the most influential approaches and methods in English language teaching and principles of communicative language teaching. They will be able to apply this knowledge in the process of supervised lesson planning and evaluation of observed lessons (both live and recorded).
Osnova
1. Methods and approaches in language teaching – overview. 2. Communicative language teaching – typical learning and teaching activities. 3. Needs analysis and language course syllabus. 4. English language coursebooks – evaluation criteria. 5. Exploiting language coursebooks and supplementary materials. 6. Supervised lesson planning (2 lessons), video observation and evaluation of lesson plans. 7. Microteaching.
Metody hodnocení
Learners will actively participate in seminars (80 % attendance), engage in microteaching, observe two live English lessons taught by experienced teachers and present observation notes. They will also plan two short lessons. The final oral examination also covers the content of ‘Introduction to teaching practice’.
