- Cíle předmětu
- To extend learners’ awareness of areas of English grammar difficult for Czech learners (and other L1 users – based on participants’ needs) and communicative approaches to teaching grammar, including varied ways of its presentation and practice. Learners will become familiar with a range of published materials focusing on English grammar and will learn how to exploit them effectively in an English classroom. Comparison and contrast of English and L1 structures will allow learners to meet their future students’ language needs more effectively.

- Learners will show familiarity with the selected grammatical categories and demonstrate an ability to transform their knowledge into effective teaching materials and procedures with reference to their students’ needs.

- 1. Key terms: transfer, interference, interlanguage, types of error. 2. Teaching grammar in the grammar-translation and direct method, communicative approaches to teaching grammar; contrastive approach. 3. Some / any and a situational presentation. 4. Will / going to and an inductive presentation. 5. Future perfect and a deductive presentation. 6. Prepositions of movement and visual support. 7. If clause / Time clause and an introductory dialogue. 8. Used to / would and guided discovery. 9. Past perfect and an introductory written text. 10. Reported speech and a picture story. 11. Present perfect continuous and a combination of techniques. 12. The passive and a ‚test – teach – test‘ approach. 13. Verb patterns and ‚noticing‘ based on an introductory written text.
- Metody hodnocení
- Assessments and other requirements Active participation and 80 % attendance. Submission of 3 short written assignments and a lesson plan for a remedial lesson focusing on a specific grammar area with justification of the classroom procedure.
