- Course objectives (in Czech)
- Learners will gain a basic overview of current issues in education, training and schooling They will understand the core concepts of pedagogy and apply them in professional communication and pedagogical activities. They will develop the ability to apply systemic pedagogical thinking to solve pedagogical tasks and problems.
- Learning outcomes (in Czech)
- The student will gain knowledge of the basic concepts of pedagogy and the ability to apply them. The student works with basic terminology.
- Syllabus (in Czech)
- 1. The subject of pedagogy, basic concepts of pedagogy, determinants and contexts of education and training. Current topics in pedagogy. 2. Structure of pedagogical disciplines, their subject matter. Important works and personalities of pedagogy. 3. Education: determinants, content, means, conditions, actors, goals and results. The school as an educational institution, the functions of the school. Contemporary problems of education, education and schooling. 4. Historical development of education: ancient times (Athenian, Spartan, Hellenistic, Roman education), Middle Ages (ecclesiastical, chivalric education), modern times (selected concepts), opinions on the role of education. 5. J. A. Comenius: life and work. Comenius' pedagogical system and its relevance. 6. European contexts of education. Educational policy and major institutions. Educational policy documents. Case study: the Czech Education and Higher Education Act. 7. Basic features of school systems. Models of school systems. ISCED levels of education. Case study: Czech school system and its changes. 8. School/education reform, types of reforms. Current curriculum reform in the Czech Republic, its benefits and risks.

- Test. Learners will submit a glossary of pedagogical terms in the exam.
