Course objectives (in Czech)
To improve the knowledge of practical English so that at the end of the course the students are on average at the C1 level in most of the language skills.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
Students will prove their knowledge of the above-mentioned vocabulary and grammar structures and they will be able to use them effectively and more accurately in written and spoken communication in English at the middle C1 level.
Syllabus (in Czech)
Topics: Further development of vocabulary, grammar and namely speaking skills. At the C1 level there is more focus on the development of competences in the area of writing skills, not only on the ability to use the appropriate register but also on language accuracy. In this course the students will go through the Units 8 - 14 of the Complete Advanced (second edition) coursebook. Extra materials focusing on enhancing of vocabulary (mainly collocations related to the topics), grammar accuracy and development of speaking will be used, based on the needs of the students. Topics – vocabulary areas: 8. Media, 9. Speed, 10. Lifelong process, 11. Places, 12. World, 13. Health and lifestyle, 14. Moving abroad Grammar: 8. Verb patterns, word formation, 9. Relative clauses, compounds, 10. Modal verbs, verb patterns, 11. Conditionals, 12. Intensifiers, 13. Time clauses, 14. Cleft sentences
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Students will participate actively during the lessons. Their progress will be assessed based on the tasks given in the course of the semester. In order to pass the exam, the student will have to achieve 52% in the final test.
