Prerequisites (in Czech)
Course requirements for full-time students are a minimum of 75% attendance and familiarity with the required reading demonstrated through active participation in seminars. Full-time students are also required to pass a test at the end of the first semester and an exam at the end of the second semester. Combined students are required to submit (and pass) three written assignments each semester, pass a test at the end of the first and an exam at the end of the second semester. The final grade is determined by both coursework (50% - 25 x 2) and exam results (50% - 25 x 2). Weightings may be adjusted to reflect improvements in the latter stages of the course.

Course objectives (in Czech)
Cíl: This is the second of two seminars providing students with an introduction to English literature. The course picks up where it left off in the previous semester and makes the transition to modernist English language literature via emerging themes in late Victorian literature and Edwardian society. By the end of the course students will have a clear sense of the principle developments in English language literature over the last century and a half; they will be familiar with the key themes and techniques of Modernist literature; and they will have had further practise of analysing prosody and close reading of prose.
